It's one of the stronger indicators, yes--if they already have a well-defined personality, which it sounds like they do, you can move on to vocalization exercises. That means asking them questions, and waiting for responses--ultimately, whether you count any thought that pops up afterwards as "hers" is up to you

(I have limited understanding of this.)
Is it possible that they’ve disappeared because you’ve completely stopped thinking about them for a period of time?(edited)
Good luck! There are a lot of guides out there which should be helpful if you're looking for advice

nice to meet you too! Your tulpa (proto-tulpa? Imaginary friend? Whatever you want to call them right now) seems nice :) It looks like you have a very well-developed imagination
It's what happened to me one day when someone else was fronting I just kinda like went asleep for a little bit I wasn't even aware of myself then the headmate called me and I was aware of myself and talking again
the headmate in question still has not made a full recovery from the event, after well over six months (probably around a year or more by now)
But we are getting closer

Reply to: that happened to us a few times… one time really really badly…
I have heard about this happening before, but I'm curious to see if there are other similarities.
Can you tell me more about what it's like to talk to your tulpa? I don’t want to suggest something and project my thoughts onto you
When I am asking Luna questions, and I am vetoing certain responses as my own thoughts and not hers, does that mean that I can change the way she thinks right now by waiting for different responses?
If you don't want a tulpa that's their own person, then deliberately sculpting them like a character with little wiggle room would result in a character.
However, if your goal is to create a tulpa who is their own person, I wouldn't worry about this. It's normal for hosts to struggle with understanding their tulpa's responses, I wouldn't beat yourself up about it
The key is if you want them to be a tulpa, they will become one(edited)

ethics can be difficult when it comes to plurality.
So, beginning. Around 3 years ago, I found a large stuffed bear about 3 feet tall that I would spend every night playing ‘pretend’ with. I would pretend as if the bear was an actual person, usually a character from something or a character i’ve made up. Luna, is one of these characters from my own imagination, and has by far persisted beyond any of the others for how often I talk to her and how much I care for her. Her character description is this: She is an android created by Cinamiyna on a planet known as Morka 9 (fictional) in the galaxy Virgo A/Messier 87, and was created with the express purpose of being a perfect partner for me and suiting every preference I could have in a girl. At the time of her conception, I was severely depressed and greatly needed love, finding it in my own imagination.
Dissociative Identity Disorder
A coping mechanism in response to severe childhood trauma. Instead of tulpas, you have alters, and the system with DID has intense dissociation experiences. For example, they wake up in a strange place wearing different clothes and realizing 3 days are suddenly gone dissociation.
While tulpamancers can have trauma, their experiences are not the same as those with DID(edited)

it's the same with me
and actually even when we're switched our thoughts aren't necessarily exposed to each other
often i just kinda disappear when i'm not fronting, even if i get called on
We disappear but like I've made 2 terms for me
Offline - just not talking, possibly spectating just call on them so they can talk
Asleep - like offline but not responding at all and can last longer
Usually my headmates can still talk to me when they're switched in though
But a bunch of times they haven't been able to
Eishi was even stuck in front once
aapeli 🟣🥫🥔 ae
its just the brain swapping the main personality and everyone shares the same consciousness
Ig that makes some sense especially with the forgetting yourself thing you said earlier

I find it funny how he can like focus on different details that I'm not seeing like one day there was this fancy cup I was using to drink some water and I just thought it was a star but noooo he pointed out that it wasn't a star because it had more like edges and points and I didn't even see that
Actually i have a suspicion about why my headmates are less present sometimes and why i disappear sometimes
I dissociate pretty often, so it could just be me like... depersonalizing away?
Ofc there are other possibilities but it is something that happens with me so i wouldn't be surprised
If you dissociate too maybe that could be a factor?
However i would be careful not to conflate it with DID still since DID has specific dissociative symptoms that aren't always the same as dissociation from other disorders. Dissociation is present in disorders other than DID so i'd try not to get caught up in it
